Integrative Psychiatric Care

A different kind of mental health medicine

In modern history, psychiatric care has meant a brief appointment, a prescription, and a follow-up in three months. For many people, that approach has left a lot missing.

Integrative psychiatry starts from a different premise: that mental health is shaped not just by brain chemistry, but by the body, the nervous system, history, lifestyle, relationships, and the deeper questions of meaning and connection that conventional medicine rarely has time to ask.

It's a newer, evolving field and there's no single definition of what it looks like in practice. What it holds in common is a commitment to treating the whole person, not just the symptoms.

What Integrative Psychiatric Care Looks Like at Odessa

At Odessa, integrative psychiatric care is offered by Jen Milau, APRN, PMHNP-BC — a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with more than a decade in the mental health field and a background in psychoneuroimmunology, the science of how the mind, nervous system, and immune system speak to each other.

Jen's approach is guided by intuition, grounded in science, and built around you. She works collaboratively, treating the space as reverent and you as an active partner in your own care — not a passive recipient of a treatment plan.

Her work may include:
Medication evaluation and management, including both pharmaceutical options and supplements or plant-based remedies, depending on your needs and values
Lab and genetic testing, when indicated, to inform medication decisions and understand your unique biology
Somatic and nervous system work, drawing from polyvagal theory, somatic experiencing, and internal family systems
Therapeutic exploration of the deeper patterns underlying your symptoms — the beliefs, experiences, and parts of yourself that may be running the show
Support for obsessive-compulsive and panic symptoms through exposure and response prevention (ERP)
Mindfulness, meditation, and spirituality, woven in as tools for reconnection

Not every person will engage with every element. Jen's process is to meet you where you are and build from there.

Jen Milau

APRN, PMHNP-BC

Jen Milau, APRN, PMHNP-BC is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner whose path to integrative care was shaped as much by her own life as by her clinical training. After years in large healthcare systems, she transitioned to private practice to do the kind of whole-person healing she knew was possible but couldn't offer within the constraints of conventional medicine.

Her practice is rooted in the belief that humans have an innate capacity to heal, that trauma disrupts the connection between our physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies, and that nature and community are among our most underused medicines. Warm, relational, and deeply curious, Jen brings her lived experience alongside her clinical expertise to every session.

Jen’s practice is rooted in the belief that our approach to healing should be as dynamic and expansive as the human experience is rich and complex.
